Developing Child and Page
One of Evelyn’s goals during this show was to make a clear and distinct portrayal for each character. Some of her inspiration for Child were Jack from Into the Woods, Matilda from Matilda, and her young students. She was inspired by their behavior and speaking. For Page, some inspirations were Fairies from Sleeping Beauty and Videa from Tinker Bell. She wanted to make her characters remind the audience of nostalgic characters. This was a goal her and the director, Afsaneh Aayani, both shared. She made it a goal to bring these character alive by establishing precise relationships with other characters specifically Pigeon. The preparing process included of a thorough physical warmup. Most importantly she wanted to explore and had lots of fun creating their physicality and vocal range.
One of Evelyn’s favorite aspects about the production was the choreography aspects. Adam Castaneda, choreographer, worked with Evelyn and the cast on contemporary dance style. Some aspects that Evelyn loved was working on silhouettes. For every dance Adam gave the creativity to the cast to come up with silhouettes and then inspired the choreography on the silhouette. In the photo, Evelyn is rehearsing the 3 number.
