Sin Escape
Directing Sin Escape
Evelyn Peralta directed BTW'S Hispanic Heritage Show, Sin Escape. One of her greatest ambitions is to utilize her craft to express cultural stories. She understands the concept of representation as a first-generation Mexican American, especially as a queer woman of color. When she realized Booker T had only produced one Hispanic Heritage production, she stepped up and directed a student-written play. She and assistant, Carter Castaneda, directed the writers through the process of writing a script about the difficulties and anguish that children detained at the border face. Understanding the numerous aspects that make up a story, she decided to incorporate film, dance, live music, and visual arts into her production, resulting in a mix-media and multi-artistic production. She has treasured every moment since pitching the concept to her producer, Guinea Bennett Price, locating each dancer's number with Bianca Lopez, engaging with producer and director of cinematography Amanda Reyes, and, most importantly, directing her cast and crew to share stories of hope, trauma, activism, and culture.
